Gift Yourself This Year: How To Give Yourself The Gift Of Good Vision

by Vernon Chambers

The holidays are here, which means you're probably busy finishing off your gift list. If you haven't added something to the list for yourself, it's time to do that. If you're not sure what you should give yourself this holiday season, think about your vision. Right now is the perfect time to give yourself the gift of good vision and healthy eyes. If you're not sure how to give yourself the gift of good vision, read the list provided below. You'll find four great vision-related gifts to give yourself this year.

Schedule an Eye Exam

If you haven't had a vision exam in a few years or you've never had a vision exam, now's a good time to find out how your vision is doing. You should have your vision checked at least once every two years. If you've reached forty years of age, and you haven't experienced any vision problems so far, it's a good idea to schedule your first vision exam. You might not realize this, but your vision can start changing right around your fortieth birthday.

Update Your Prescription

If you wear corrective glasses and you haven't changed your prescription in a while, it's time for an update. If you're like many people, you might think that your current glasses are fine, as long as you can still see out of them. However, that might not be the case. In fact, your eyes might have adjusted to the old lenses, which means you might not be seeing as well as you should. The best way to enjoy clear vision is to give yourself the gift of an updated pair of prescription glasses this year.

Switch to Contact Lenses

If your glasses tend to get in the way of things so you don't wear them as often as you should, now's the time to talk to your optometrist about contact lenses. One of the great things about contact lenses is that you don't need to worry about them sliding off your face or getting broken. During your eye exam, your optometrist can measure your eyes and get you fitted for contact lenses. Once they come in, you can schedule another office visit to learn how to use your contact lenses.

Invest in Protective Eyewear

Finally, now that you're investing in your own good eye health this holiday season, don't forget about the protective eyewear. This is important if you spend a lot of time outside or if you participate in sports. Protective eyewear can provide UV protection when you're out in the sun and can provide shatter-proof protection when you're participating in winter sports, such as skiing or snowboarding. While you're talking to your optometrist during your eye exam, don't forget to discuss the benefits of a prescription for protective eyewear.

About Me

Finding Better Eye Doctors

When our child was diagnosed with a debilitating eye condition, I knew I needed to start looking around for a great eye doctor. I did my research regarding the kinds of training eye doctors typically received, and then looked for a professional that really exceeded the expectations required of him. I was able to find an amazing eye doctor that had years of treating the same condition my child had, and it was really comforting to know that he could help them. My optometrist has made my child's disability management much more straightforward. Check out these posts to learn how to find a better eye doctor.
