Why Do Your Glasses Always Slide And Slip?

by Vernon Chambers

Having to wear glasses should not feel like a major inconvenience. Once you're adapted to them, your glasses should feel like an extension of your face, and you should barely notice they're there. This is next to impossible if your glasses always seem to be slipping and sliding around. Here's a look at the most common reasons glasses slide and what you can do to remedy the situation.

You're sweaty.

Do your glasses stay in place as long as you stay cool, but begin slipping the second it's warm and you get sweaty? Sweat on your ears and the bridge of your nose can certainly cause glasses to slide, especially if you have heavier frames that are more easily dragged downward by gravity. Try applying just a touch of antiperspirant to the back of your ears. If this does not work, you may need to hold your glasses in place with a headband whenever you do something active that's going to work you into a sweat. The next time you're due for a new pair of glasses, consider buying lighter frames.

The nose pieces are not adjusted properly.

If your glasses have fixed nose pieces, then they might be too wide for your face. Your only option in this case is to buy a new pair of glasses. Luckily, most glasses do come with adjustable nose pieces. Even if yours fit at first, if you have lost a bit of weight, they may now be too wide, encouraging your glasses to slide. Sometimes the springs and screws loosen on their own overtime, too. Stop by your optician's office and have them adjust the nose pieces for you. Many opticians will do this free of charge for their patients as it only takes a second.

They've become bent.

Your frames should sit evenly on your face. If they've become a bit bent and one ear piece is placing more pressure on your ear than the other, then this lack of balance may contribute to them sliding down your face. Do you recall getting hit in the face or dropping your glasses? Maybe you were in a minor accident and thought everything was fine, but your glasses got bent a little. An optician should be able to straighten them out for you, putting an end to the sliding.

Don't go on struggling with glasses that won't stay put. Talk to an optician like those at San Anselmo Optometry to find a solution.

About Me

Finding Better Eye Doctors

When our child was diagnosed with a debilitating eye condition, I knew I needed to start looking around for a great eye doctor. I did my research regarding the kinds of training eye doctors typically received, and then looked for a professional that really exceeded the expectations required of him. I was able to find an amazing eye doctor that had years of treating the same condition my child had, and it was really comforting to know that he could help them. My optometrist has made my child's disability management much more straightforward. Check out these posts to learn how to find a better eye doctor.
