What Are The Different Types Of Soft Contact Lenses And The Advantages Of Wearing Them?

by Vernon Chambers

Wearing soft contact lenses has become one of the most popular ways to correct the vision. Soft contact lenses correct a variety of different vision problems including nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and presbyopia. To determine which soft contact lenses are best for you, it is good to know the benefits that are offered by each type. These are the different types of soft contact lenses and the advantages of wearing them.

Daily Wear Soft Contacts

These contact lenses are made of a soft, flexible plastic that allow oxygen to pass through to the eyes. Daily wear soft contact lenses normally take only a short period of time to adapt to wearing them. This type of soft contact lens is also available in bifocal and tinted styles.

Daily wear soft contact lenses are ideal for those who have an active lifestyle because they are designed to be very comfortable and they do not become accidentally dislodged as easily as some other types of contact lenses.

Extended Wear Soft Contacts

Extended wear soft contact lenses offer most of the same advantages as daily wear soft contacts. However, these contact lenses can be worn overnight or up to a week before they need to be removed for cleaning. Some types of extended wear soft contact lenses can also be worn up to 30 days without being removed.

Extended Wear Disposable Soft Contacts

Extended wear soft contacts are also available in a disposable style. Like standard extended wear soft contacts, some brands can be worn for up to a week and some may be worn as long as 30 days. However, after the wearing period ends, these lenses are removed, thrown away and replaced with a new pair of lenses.

The advantages of wearing extended wear disposable soft contact lenses include requiring little to no cleaning, a reduction in the risk of eye infections, and the availability of bifocal and tinted lenses as well.

You may also want to consider wearing soft contact lenses on a planned replacement schedule. This involves wearing the lenses for a certain period of time, removing them for regular cleaning and sleeping and then replacing them with new lenses after the wearing period has ended. Usually planned replacement lenses are replaced every two weeks, every month or on a quarterly schedule. These contacts are designed to be easily cleaned and disinfected and are available in almost any prescription needed as well as tinted styles. About Me

Finding Better Eye Doctors

When our child was diagnosed with a debilitating eye condition, I knew I needed to start looking around for a great eye doctor. I did my research regarding the kinds of training eye doctors typically received, and then looked for a professional that really exceeded the expectations required of him. I was able to find an amazing eye doctor that had years of treating the same condition my child had, and it was really comforting to know that he could help them. My optometrist has made my child's disability management much more straightforward. Check out these posts to learn how to find a better eye doctor.
