Considering Costume Contact Lenses? Here's What You Need To Know

by Vernon Chambers

With Halloween approaching, you are likely pinning down all the details of this year's costume to ensure it will make the biggest impression at the party. If there is one easy way to make sure your ensemble is the complete package, it is to also change the appearance of your eyes. Whether you are dressing up like your favorite star and want to change your brown eyes to baby blue or you plan to wear a lizard costume and want diamond-shaped pupils to match, you can find costume contact lenses for just about anything. But, before you pick up a pair of these colored lenses, there are a few things you should know.

You should only trust costume lenses from specific providers.

One quick search online and you can find hundreds of sites that have costume lenses for sale. These may be alluringly cheap and you may see a site that has a pretty impressive collection. However, you should never order costume lenses from just anyone. You could end up with contact lenses made of cheap materials, which can cause damage to your eye. Always check with your optometrist who will likely have a reputable distributor they work with or recommend to find the best lenses.

Wearing the wrong costume lenses can cause lasting damage to your eyes.

You may see these lenses and think that they are only something you will wear for a few hours, so quality is really not that big of a deal. However, anytime you are placing something onto your eye, careful consideration about safety has to be at the forefront of your thoughts. The fact is, costume contact lenses could easily cause long-term damage to your eyes if they are poor quality. You could sustain retinal scratching, suffer from an eye infection, or even create long-term vision impairments.

Costume lenses should not be treated like fashion accessories.

Costume contact lenses should never be treated like an accessory you would normally use to vamp up your costume. The lenses have to be properly cared for and cleaned before they are placed in your eye, and then properly stored when you take the lenses out. If your friend has a set of lenses, you may even be tempted to borrow theirs, but even this is a bad idea. You would never consider sharing regular contact lenses, so sharing costume lenses is definitely a bad idea as well.

About Me

Finding Better Eye Doctors

When our child was diagnosed with a debilitating eye condition, I knew I needed to start looking around for a great eye doctor. I did my research regarding the kinds of training eye doctors typically received, and then looked for a professional that really exceeded the expectations required of him. I was able to find an amazing eye doctor that had years of treating the same condition my child had, and it was really comforting to know that he could help them. My optometrist has made my child's disability management much more straightforward. Check out these posts to learn how to find a better eye doctor.
